Basset Hound Rescues: Purebred, Dogs, Puppies And Donations

Basset hounds are known for their long ears, droopy eyes, and overall sad faces. However, nothing is sadder than seeing little basset hound puppies or dogs that are neglected, abandoned, or in need of a rescue. Luckily, there are several organizations in place committed to basset hound rescue. People interested in helping needy puppies or dogs are encouraged to make donations, become a foster family, or even adopt a needy basset hound

Purebred basset hounds are originally hunting dogs from France. They are one of the most easygoing and friendly of all dog personalities. In addition to long ears and droopy eyes, this breed is easily recognizable by its short legs, long body, and loose skin. Puppies can be born in a variety of different colors including tri-colored (black, white, and brown), lemon (light blonde and white), and chestnut (red and white).

One rescue program, Guardian Angel Basset Rescue, located in Dwight, Ill., is committed to saving as many dogs and puppies as possible. One of their biggest fundraisers is their Annual Basset Bash and Illinois Waddle. The Basset Bash is basically a big party for basset hound dogs and puppies. After a $50 registration fee, the dogs and puppies are able to run free and play in a fenced in yard. All the dogs also receive a bandanna with their name embroidered on it. Highlights of the basset bash include the raffle, games, and the talent contest. Many different prizes are awarded including best trick, longest ears, lowest belly clearance, and best howl. Also, a king and queen dog are elected based on the best rescue stories of the year.

The pinnacle of the weekend is, of course, the Annual Illinois Waddle. All of the registered dogs and puppies are invited to participate in the Dwight Harvest Days Parade. Of course, the poky dogs and puppies only walk/waddle in a small portion of the parade route before collapsing. It is not at all uncommon to see the tired puppies and dogs being wheeled in wagons. Hundreds of adorable basset hounds waddling together is quite a sight to behold. Guardian Angel Basset Rescue can be contacted at 815-584-1044. More information, including how to make online donations, can be found at the Guardian Angel Basset Rescue website, bassetrescue.org. Although the Bash and Waddle are held in Illinois, dogs and owners come from around the country to participate. It is one of the largest basset hound rescue events held.

Basset hound lovers, and lovers of all dogs should consider helping out dogs and puppies that have been neglected, abandoned, or need new homes. Every single dog deserves a loving home and family. Although not everyone is able to adopt a basset hound, donations of money or time can help basset hound dogs and puppies in many ways, including medical costs.
